1. Elk River Falls
This is the quintessential waterfall of Elk Park. Known for its powerful cascade and large, welcoming pool, Elk River Falls is a must-visit. Its massive, flat-topped boulder is iconic. It’s easily accessible and perfect for swimming (with caution) and picnicking.

2. Jones Falls
Tucked away on the Appalachian Trail, Jones Falls offers a more secluded and intimate experience compared to Elk River Falls but is only a short hike from those falls. Make sure to seek this one out right before or after you visit Elk River Falls.

3. Waterfalls Park
A unique stop where you can find multiple small cascades in a maintained park setting. This is great for families or those looking for a relaxed experience. It’s a peaceful spot right in the heart of Newland.

4. Upper Creek Falls
For those looking for a slightly more rugged adventure, Upper Creek Falls offers a dramatic multi-tiered descent, a natural rock water slide, and a rewarding swimming hole. The trail leads to both the top and the base, where a large, deep pool awaits.

5. Splash Dam Falls
A spectacular 70-foot waterfall set in a rugged gorge within the Roan Mountain State Park area. The trail follows an old logging road just across the Tennessee line

6. Mountaineer Falls
This is a hidden jewel. Mountaineer Falls is less of a straight drop and more of an intricate, multi-tiered cascade that slides down a series of rock faces. A charming 30-foot cascade that slides down a series of bedrock ledges. It is accessed via a moderately difficult hike through beautiful rhododendron forests.

7. Laurel Fork Falls
Prepare for a larger adventure. Laurel Fork Falls is not just a destination; it’s an experience getting to it as well. A massive, powerful 50-foot waterfall located in a rugged gorge. This waterfall can be accessed via the Dennis Cover Trail head (rugged road, easy hike) or the Hampton Trail head (easy drive, rugged hike)

8. Twisting Falls (Compression Falls)
Prepare to get your feet wet. Twisting Falls is a unique feature that slides 30 feet down a narrow S-curve slot in the rock. Access requires wading through the creek and is considered a challenging, adventurous hike.

9. Linville Falls
The grand finale. Linville Falls is perhaps the most famous waterfall in the region, a powerful triple-tiered plunge into the Linville Gorge. An iconic 150-foot, triple-tiered waterfall that cascades into the massive Linville Gorge. It’s the highest volume waterfall on the Blue Ridge Parkway and offers multiple scenic overviews.
